Elyssa Obscura is a young self-taught photographer from Finland who started taking pictures as a way to express her feelings. Using both digital and instant (Polaroid Spectra) cameras and her body she already created a stunning body of work.
Her self portraits, with usually blurred or covered face, are intimate and delicate, permeated by melancholic and loneliness feelings. Most of her pictures are in black and white or sepia tone, giving all the shots a subtle sense of nostalgia and, at the same time, softening the very dark mood. I see a lot of references to Francesca Woodman even if she is not quoted among Elyssa’s inspirations that are mainly directors as Tarkovsky, Bergman and Gilliam.
I really hope that after checking the examples here, you go straight to her tumblr page to fully appreciate her talent.
