Corpus Vertebrae: investigating body and soul scars

Corpus Vertebrae, photography, dark, black and white photography, obscure, fine art

There is no mystery that, since the first time I noticed the works of Corpus Vertebrae (Michalina Wozniak), I fell in love with her delicate and intense way to narrate, trough the lens of her camera, the soul of her models. That’s why I asked her to collaborate with me on this postcard set and I sell some notebooks with her artwork.

I am constantly following her artistic path and I can not help but notice, how her skills are improving day by day.

I am not talking here about technical (photographic) skills, I am referring to her tactful, yet intense way to touch some delicate topics.

Mental illness, solitude, physical disability and the never-ending confrontation with death are returning themes on Corpus Vertebrae’s photography, and she has one of the most respectful, delicate ways to speak about them I’ve ever seen.

If you still have not seen her works around the net, I strongly suggest you to check her Tumblr page.

Nona Limmen

Nona Limmen, photography, analog, film, dark, obscure, occult, folk, celtic, art, fine art

Nona Limmen is a Duch photographer that in the last few years emerged in a distinctive way on the web.
There are a lot of “obscure” and “dark” photographers out there now but she has been able to build  a large fan base due probably to her distinctive style and talent.

Introduced to photography by her mother, Nona Limmen started to explore the world of analogue pictures when she was 15 years old and still today she prefers film to digital cameras.

Her creations are inspired by folk tales, Celtic and Norse mythology and nature. In this beautiful interview on Bleaq Blog she explains how she often leaves the busy streets of Amsterdam to find herself surrounded by woods or to the sea, where her artistic spirit can freely flow.

Nona’s photography is dark and mysterious with the right touch of occult mood. I highly recomend  you to check  her Instagram feed, you’ll be amazed!

Goshtly monotype prints by Nicole Coson

Nicole Coson, monotype, monoprint, black and white, ghostly, ethereal, dark, obscure, art, fine art

Nicole Coson is an artist from London (born and raised in Manila, Philippines) who makes ghostly and obscure art pieces using the monotype printing technique.

Leaving Wikipedia the duty to explain in detail the monotype working process, I only tell you that Nicole puts a layer of ink into a metal plate and then plays with it, scratching it, removing it with cloth scraps and fingers until she is satisfied with the result. She then transfers the image to paper using and old etching press.
The final results are dark and almost abstract black and white images that, with a closer look reveal ghostly details: an eye, an ear, a sort of distorted mouth line or some kind of smeared portrait.

Nicole’s artworks are even more intriguing if you  consider they are unique and subject to limited control during the printing process. With monotype printing only one copy per plate can be pressed and the result is always unpredictable.

If you like the examples here, head to Nicole’s website ( nicolecoson.com) for more and don’t forget to share this post.

Fabio Selvatici

Fabio Selvatici

Fabio approached graphic design at a young age and, after working on related fields for some years, recently decided to focus more on personal fine art projects. The results are stunningly beautiful female body pictures; bodies partially covered and melted with fine and elegant grungy details, textures and ink stains. Fabio uses both digital and traditional mediums, mixing them to eventually achieve amazing dark pieces.

I honestly hope his work will gain more and more visibility, his talent is evident on all images present on his online portfolio and I am therefore sure you will appreciate the examples below.

If you like this post, please share it and don’t hesitate to get in touch for suggestions or info requests.
